Thomas de Bourdon

The name de Borden(n)e and Bordon appears 10 times in the Kent Lay Subsidy Roll of 1334/5.  The Lay Subsidy was a tax on moveable property (ie household goods, farm implements etc), levied at 1/10th in towns and 1/15 in rural areas (ie in the Hundreds).  John de Bordenne, Hundred of Cranbrook - 3s 4d; William de Bordenne, Hundred of Cranbrook - 9s 0d; John de Bordenne, Borden in Milton (Tenth) - 3s 4d; Simon de Bordenne, Borden in Milton (Tenth) - 3s 0d; Julian(a) de Bordenne, Canterbury Tenth - 3s 0d; Richard de Bordenne, Hundred of Westgate - 4s 8d; Stephan Bordene, Bailiwick of Scapeya (Sheppey) - 1s 0d;  Agnes Bordon, Bailiwick of Sheppey - 2s 0d; Hen (Helen?) Bordon, Hundred of Newchurch - 2s 8.5d.

"Simon, son of Peter de Borden gave the church (of St. Peter and St. Paul) of the  village/parish of Borden (Kent, England) to the priory (at Leed's) and it was confirmed as a gift by King John in 1205"

REF: Pope, Founders of New England; ; ; ; NOTE: Sailed on 20 June 1635 on "Elizabeth & Ann" bound for New England, list his age as 28 and his wife as Joan, age 23. Also lists a son Matthew, age 8 and a daughter Elizabeth age 3. Permit of 12 May 1645 to emigrate from England was issued by the commissioners of Emmigration. Inherited his father's land in Smarden, Kent.

His Daughter Joan Fowle, m- Richard Borden. His grand daughter Sarah Borden, m Jonathan Holmes, son of Rev. Obadiah.
