William Henderson (Billy) THOMAS

Obituaries of Washington County, AR  Volume III 1903-1908, 386, Thomas, W.H. - (from The Prairie Grove Herald) W. H. Thomas, an aged and highly respected citizen, died at his home at Viney Grove Tuesday afternoon about 2 o'clock.  His death was the result of a stroke of paralysis which he suffered last Saturday.  Mr. Thomas was born in Sevier county, TN Nov 5th, 1823.  He was the father of eight children, seven of whom survive him.  He was twice married, his first wife having died in 1861 and in 1891 he was married to Miss Catherine Winstead, who survives him. Thomas August 18, 1879 in Collin Co, Texas.  He was previously married to Sarah Francis Hodge, in 1854 at Henderson, Texas.  This Dennis B. Thomas was 39 according to the 1870 Collin Co, TX, PO - Farmersville, Census, born in Tennessee."

DEATH: Alternate possibility of "Bef 1879" in Choctaw Nation or In Atoka county, Oklahoma

Following information sent to T.Mason on 6 Mar 2007 by Paige Black a friend of Rebecca Bishop.

The Thomas family with five other families traveled by river raft pulled by mules from Sevier and Blount Counties, TN to Morgan County,AL and then to Pulaski,Giles,Tennessee.

John's brother Mitchell listed John's children as heirs in his will. It read as follows: "the children of John Thomas a brother, to wit: Sallie wife of Anderson Rogers of Giles Co., Ketty wife of Thomas Carden of Giles Co., Ike B. Thomas, Jerusha wife of R.L. Worley of Giles Co., J.Robert Thomas, Ollie, Lucy wife of Lee Ingram, James, Earl L. and Annie all of Giles Co.,TN.

Ann GRAHAM

Following information sent to T.Mason on 6 Mar 2007 by Paige Black a friend of Rebecca Bishop.

When the Yankees came through, Grandmother Ann Graham Thomas told them she would make breakfast if they would have her to. She thought they would pay her. Instead. they grabbed up the table cloth with food, dishes and silver and left. Ann never forgave them and bitter feelings over it. I remember Kettie speaking of this.

FUNERAL OF MRS. A. M. THOMAS HELD SUNDAY
Popular Woman is Survived by Many Relatives
A largely attended funeral was that of Mrs. Annie M. Thomas, held yesterday afternoon at the residence of Mrs. Tom Carden on Fifth Avenue where the deceased had made her home for a number of years. Rev. J. A. Foster, pastor of the West Side Presbyterian Church was assisted by Rev. Mr. Masters, pastor of the First Christian Church, and Rev. A. H. Manley, conducted the services.

The late Mrs. Thomas came to the Decaturs some ten years ago from Tennessee, where she was born 77 years ago. At the age of 9 years she became a Christian and has always been active in church work. Thirty grandchildren survive her and seven children who are: E. L. Thomas, O. J. Thomas, J. D. Thomas, J. R. Thomas, of the Decaturs; Ike Thomas, Aspen Hill, Tenn.; Mrs. Sallie Rogers, Mrs. Tom Carden, Mrs. Bob Worley, of the Decaturs; Mrs. Lucy Ingram of Aspen Hill, Tenn.--Monday's Decatur Daily.


Jerusa (Ducie) Manicia Gass THOMAS

RESEARCHER: Information sent from Doug [Waldenhd1@aol.com] to Jami Weaver on 23 Jun 2004.  "I am a descendant of Dennis's daughter Jerusha Gass Thomas, born 1839.  She married Robert Marcus Graham of Sevier Co. in 1860 and moved to Davidson Co., Tennessee.  She died there in 1909 and I located her death certificate."

In 1613 he arrived in the Jamestown settlement in Virginia on the London Company ship, Treasurer. He settled on land east of the James River. He returned to England and then back to Virginia to prepare for the arrival of his family. His wife, Elizabeth Flinton, and their sons, Benjamin and Joseph, arrived in Virginia in 1625 on the Bonnie Bess. Elizabeth was the sister of a colonial physician named Pharoah Flinton. Pharoah Cobb, who was born sometime before 1641, was named for him. Joseph Cobb was granted 400 acres in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. His Will was executed in 1654, and is probated in Isle of Wight County Will Book A, page 520.
