Dr. Joel T HICKMAN

RESEARCHER: Information from Mike Monroe [mlmonro@infi.net] to T.Mason on 5 Jun 2002. "I have a copy of a letter written by Joel T Hickman in September 1856 that gives names and dates of his family members and Joel says his father-in-law's name was "Dr John T Lewis", and yes, the "T" is commonly understood to stand for "Terrell".  Joel T Hickman says his birthdate was 18-May-1825 in Fayette County, Kentucky, and he married Frances Downing Lewis on 24-December-1846 in Lexington, Kentucky."

Charles L DOWNING

BIRTH-MARRIAGE-DEATH: E-mail from Belinda Johnson [bjbjx2@iland.net] to T.Mason on 11 Dec 2000. Her mailing address is 276 S 7 Highway, Clinton, MO 64735. EXTRACT: I have the family Bible that belonged to Charles L Downing, b. March 15, 1855, d. Jan. 7, 1921, and his wife Thusa I. Richesson, b. Sept 10, 1861.  Charles and Thusa were married March 15, 1883 by Rev. S. M Attebery in Gallatin, Davies County, Missouri.  The handwritten Bible record shows Charles and Thusa had 1 child, Vergie Lennis Downing, b. April 29, 1884.  The Bible was handed down to me through various family members beginning with Clarence Place who was my great uncle on my mothers side of the family. My Mother told me "Aunt Thusey" lived with Uncle Clarence and his wife Aunt Minerva for several years prior to her death.

There is an entry for Thusa Calestine Culver, b. Dec. 10, 1865 - not sure who that is. There is a Christmas postcard addressed to Thusey Downing, % Clarence Place, signed by "Mrs. Ella Bennett and Children", post-marked Dec. 22, 1928.

After searching through the Bible I found Thusa's date of death and it also appears Charles may have remarried after Thusa's death.  I'll do some research on that and share any other info I come up with.
