John Christian HOLLAND

BIRTH-MARRIAGE-DEATH-CHILDREN-FATHER-BIOGRAPHY: Biographical sketch of Lathrop Township, Missouri; ; pg 244; ; Xerox sent to T.Mason by Ann Rutherford; EXTRACTION: farmer & stock raiser, section 33, post office Turney. ... son and 6th child or Benjamin Holland, a native of Tennessee. He emigrated to Clay County, Missouri, in 1832, and, with his family, in 1835, moved to Platte County. He was a resident of Andrew Co at time of death, having been murdered on account of his religious principles in M.E. denomination. began business age 21. In 1841, entered eighty acres of land in Platte Co and in 1846 enlisted in Company F. Second Regiment Missouri Volunteers under Sterling Price. Served 15 months, returned, commenced farming, and in 1850 moved to Clinton Co where he owned 120 acres, well improved. Kind, generous, actuated by purest of motives. Heart and hand are in all good works, pleasant and happy home and is known by all as "Uncle John".

CONFLICT: On 23May1999,  www.familytreemaker.com/users/h/o/l/Patsy-J-Holland/ODT5-0001.html the author claims that he lived until after 1907. Date shown at source above for death is 8 Jun 1856. This would be before some children were born.

Death Certificate seems to resolve this problem.

RESEARCHER: Information from Jim Holland to T.Mason on 25 Feb 2003. "He was my great grandfather. Verbal family history says he was a minister, but I have no confirmation.  The 1850 census for Green Township, MO indicates he was a farmer and had four children: William age 7, Lydia 5, Washington 2, Robert 6 mos."

The treatment and death of his sainted father will never be forgotten. So he has grown to be a man positive in his conviction, doing what he knows to be right with all his might, and opposing wrong. Received good common school education, is a great reader, among the best informed men of the county. Mother was daughter of Colonel Warner, of Tennessee, who fought so noble in the Revolutionary War. Mr. Holland taught school one year in Andrew Co, and in 1855 settled in Nebraska City where he engaged in trade. In 1859, returned to Rock Port, Atehison, Missouri, there buying a home. In the fall of 1860 came to Shaol Township, bought a good farm, paying $3000 for it, and at once took a front rank among our best farmers. In 1861 Union men formed company of home guard in Mirabile, Cladwell Co for 6 months. He then enlisted in Sixth Missouri State Calvary of U.S. and was honorably discharged on 7 Apr 1864 on account of sickness. Moved to Plattsburg in 1867 and lives on 160 acres. Leading Republican, delegate to conventions, and member of county central committee.

It is possible that George Preston Farmer was in the Elijah Farmer household on the 1 June 1830 census at Roane Co., TN. George Preston Farmer began military service Seminole War in 1835 at Alabama. He had gray eyes, auburn hair, dark complexion, 6' 2" high, and 200 lbs. On 7 July 1837. at age 20, George Preston Farmer began military service Capt. Hembree's Co., Lindsay's Regiment Tenn Mounted Volunteers on 7 July 1837 at Fort Cass, Tennessee. He resided at Ross' Lag, Tennessee, on 31 August 1837. He resided at Fort Himbree, North Carolina, from 31 October 1837 to 28 February 1838. It is possible that George Preston Farmer was in the Elijah Farmer household on the 1 June 1840 census at Roane Co., TN. George Preston Farmer was an one of a party of three which surveyed 5621 1/2 acres for Samuel Eskridge Esq. In November 1841 at Roane Co., TN. Woody resided at Fannin County, Texas, from March 1847 to March 1849. George Preston Farmer was the first settler in 1849 at Fort Worth, Texas. He and Jane L.
