Col. Samuel Griffin Fauntleroy

Of "The Cliffs" Richmond Co, and "Ring's Neck" King & Queen. Appointed Justice of King & Queen in 1794.

Tidewater Virginia Families, a Magazine of History and Genealogy, vol. 5,#2, 1996

Samuel's father, Moore purchased Rings Neck it from Robert Carter, of Corotoman, the commander of the Richmond County Militia during the Revolution, who on his trips to supervise the operation of his King and Queen property was frequently accompanied by a young militia officer, Samuel Griffin Fauntleroy, son of his neighbor and friend, Moore Fauntleroy. When Moore saw that his son was determined to live in King and Queen County, he purchased it and bequeathed it to Samuel, who inherited it and more than $40,000, a sum whose payment was not complete until 1821.
