Abigail Borden

CONFLICT: Family History Records; ; compiled by Michael S. Cole, [HYPERLINK  http://www.thecolefamily.com/hobby/ahnentafel.htm#ahnentafel ]  NOTES: source does not mention Copperwaite as spouse.

DESCENDANT: The following THEORY was sent to me by Karen Brown on 1 Aug 2004.  "I am a descendant of Thomas and Abigail Borden Emley."  The GMNJ article (see husband - Thomas Cooke) was researched by a professional genealogist hired by R. W. Cook and state specifically that Amos Willets was the third marriage of Abigail.  That is why I was somewhat surprised at the info on your website regarding Copperwhaite marriage.

Will: Abigail Willets of Burlington Co. NJ in her will dated July 8, 1745 and proved Apr. 7, 1747 names her daughter Ruth Emley who is to receive L40 and is appointed excecutrix and children Elizabeth, William, and Benjamin Cook. (NJA 30:534)

Thomas Cooke IV

DESCENDANT: The following was sent to me by Karen Brown [kmbrown2@earthlink.net] on 1 Aug 2004.  "I am a descendant of Thomas and Abigail Borden Emley."

There is an article in "The Genealogical magazine of New Jersey" Vol. 53 No. 3 WN 195 Sept 1978, written by Richard W. Cook, entitled 'Thomas Cooke of Shrewsbury' (father of my ancestor that was married to Abigail Borden) and was written to show that there is no evidence that my Thomas Cooke of Shrewsbury was related to the more well known Thomas Cooke of Portsmouth, Rhode Island.

WILL: Thomas Cooke of New Hanover, Burlington Co. yeoman in his will dated January 1, 1742/3 and proved Feb 9, 1742/3 names his wife Abigail, sons William and Benjamin and daughter Elizabeth all under age, son-in-law Thomas Emley and daughter-in-law Ruth Emley.  Executors include his brother William Cooke. The inventory was entered Feb 1, 1742/1  (NJA 30:108).
