Col. Samuel Griffin Fauntleroy

"In 1781 he was a captain in the Virginia Militia in Richmond County, later promoted to colonel. He was a wealthy man, and it is said of him that he attached great importance to marrying for money.
    In 1783, through his first wife, he came into possession of the Todd plantation of 880 acres in King and Queen County called "Farmer's Mount", where he lived and is buried. He also inherited "Rings Neck" in King and Queen County from his father, and built a brick house on it in 1823 and renamed it Holly Hill."

"He graduated in medicine frm the University of Pennsylvania in 1814. He bought the plantation called "White Marsh" in King and Queen County from his cousin, Thomas Fauntleroy. There he built a large house, and changed the name to "Marialva". When his son, Dr. Samuel Griffin Fauntleroy got married in 1839 he gave this place to him, and moved to "Piedmont" in King and Queen County, where he died."
