"lived first in Clarke County, Va. near "Greenville", and went with his sister and three brothers to New Harmony, Indiana in 1827. In 1833 he moved to Montgomery County, Tennessee and settled there on the Cumberland River. This was then the frontier. He built a home there called "Castle Carmichael". He became a man of wealth and a large slave owner. In 1858 he moved near Paducah, Ky."

(52) Joseph Murdock Fauntleroy, who was born September 7th, 1791, married March 13th, 1820, Eliza Belfield Bowman, and died May 4th, 1868. He was an active member of the Baptist Church, was a man of wealth, of great refinement of tastes, of good intellectual attainments, and rare conversational powers. His wife was born March 14th, 1801, and died January 1st, 1856. She was a daughter of Capt. Isaac Bowman, of Shenandoah county, Virginia. Joseph was reared at Greenville; his wife, at Strasburg, Va. They lived on the Shenandoah river, near the old homestead, " Greenville," until the birth of four children, when they removed to near Clarksville, Tenn., and finally, just before the late war, they removed to Kentucky, and settled near Paducah. Their children were: (53) Mary Elizabeth Fauntleroy, who was born in Shenandoah county, Va., May 26th, 1823, and died in Christian county, Ky., January 6th, 1882. She married in Montgomery county, Tenn., January 16th, 1844, Jas. Thos. Garnett, who was born in Albemarle county, Va., December 7th, 1816, and died in Christian county, Ky., May 11th, 1883. They had children : (54) Jos. Fauntleroy Garnett, who was born December 16th, 1844; (55) Walter Faunt Le Roy Garnett, who was born January 8th, 1849, in Montgomery county, Tenn., and married February 3d, 1880, at the Baptist Church in Hopkinsville, Ky., Mary Wallace, born January 1st, 1861, daughter of Jas. A. and Cornelia Wallace, of that place, and they have children: (56) Leslie Wallace Garnett ; (5 7) Susie Wallace Garnett; (58) Mary Faunt Le Roy Garnett, and (59) Wallace Faunt Le Roy Garnett. (60) Emily Susan Fauntleroy, a daughter of (52) Jos. Murdock, was born March 12th, 1825, and died August 16th, 1826. (61) John Butler Fauntleroy, who was born February 26th, 1828, married Nannie Allensworth, of Todd county,."

"was only two years old when they came to New Harmony, grew up in the little Hoosier town. He attended the boys' school of Phiquepal d'Arusmont (husband of Frances Wright) in New Harmony, and finished his education in Cincinnati. He was one of the earliest members of the Working Men's Institute and was known throughtout life as a typical gentleman of the old New Harmonyregime. He exhibited the traits of ingenuity that characterized the Fauntleroy men, being the patentee of several inventions."

"living in 1952 at the age of 94 and still active. She never married. She purchased the "Old Fauntleroy Home" at New Harmony and retrieved much of the original furnishings. She lived in it for many years, and when it was purchased from her by the Indiana Federation of Womens Clubs and made into a historical museum, she was made its custodian, and served to an advanced age. She is a historian and a genealogist of no small ability, and many of the pictures in this book were acquired from her. She made a trip to England, visited the old Fauntleroy places there, took pictures, and by her research added much to our knowledge of the early history of the family. She has preserved many records of the activities of those who lived in the "Old Fauntleroy Home" of the Rappite and Owenite communities in New Harmony, and of the Minerva Club. More about her will be found elsewhere in this book."
