Though not a man of high abilities, he foresaw the development in prospect along the water powers of Fall River. During the Revolution a British force burned his sawmill and a large quantity of lumber owned by his sons who were operating the mill. Mr Borden was carried away a prisoner, with others, and his dwelling house was burned. He died July 4, 1795. He married, March 12, 1747, Hope Cook. Children: Patience, born August 9, 1747, Thomas, 1750, Richard, Hope, Betsey and Mary."

"Abner Cook signed as a witness to the will of William Shrieve, dated 9 May 1771, along with William Fish and Benjamin Sheldon (Tiverton Probate 4:9).
His name does not appear as head of a household in the Rhode Island 1774 census. The Rhode Island Military Census of 1777 lists him as between 16 and 50 years old but unable to serve.
By the will of his father, Abner received part of Stephen's homestead lot in Tiverton. In August term 1818, when the Newport Superior Court gave Daniel Cook authority to sell the real estate of Abner Cook of Tiverton, deceased, in order to settle the estate, the property was described as "one old house by the highway" (Newport Court Book 18-41).
On 7 December 1819 William Fish of Tiverton, yeoman, sold for $320. to Daniel Cook of Tiverton, yeoman, land in Tiverton bounded on the east by the Handkerchief lot, said land formerly belonging to Abner Cook and purchased by Fish at auction; the deed was witnessed by Thomas and Job Durfee (Tiverton Deeds 10.119)."
